Born on October 13, 1911 in a small town called Bhagalpur which is located in Bihar. He was educated at the prestigious Presidency College, Kolkatta. He started his cinema career with the film Jeevan Naiyya in 1936, which was produced by Bombay Talkies and directed by Himanshu Roy.
